Hon’ble CM Shri Oommen Chandy inaugurates Technopark – Allianz Bicycle Club
As part of Technopark’s Green initiative, 'Why not cycle' was conceptualized by Allianz and Technopark after taking into consideration the parking woes, pollution, traffic congestion and the sedentary life faced by employees of the Technopark. The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy formally inaugurated the cycle club by riding a bicycle along with the Techies in front of Thejaswini building on Tuesday, the 6th of December 2011 in the Technopark campus. Technopark already have low floor a/c buses under JNURRM scheme plying inside the campus connecting the city centre and Kazhakootam. Shri Oommen Chandy said steps will be initiated quickly to make the National Highway bypass a four lane in order to have smooth flow of traffic to Technopark and back. The Chief Minister also said that the mono rail service in Trivandrum is designed to suit the requirement of Technopark community.
This initiative in the most beautiful and stunning IT Park in the country is targeted at making it easier for the techies to travel between buildings within the Technopark campus said Shri Mervin Alexander former CEO of Technopark.
Any employee at Technopark can register himself for free and avail the cycles at a nominal hourly rental of Rs.2. There are cycles for both men and women and five racks (near the main entrance behind the reception block, near Nila, near Thejaswini, near Park Centre and in front of Chandragiri) with 10-12 cycles each for easy access.
'With this initiative, we have taken one more step to make our campus greener and decongest the park. We strongly believe that this is a great step that throws light to the techies for adopting eco-friendly measures, and we look forward to more such initiatives in future’, said Shri K G Girish Babu, CEO of Technopark.
Currently there are 245 IT firms of varying shapes and sizes, employing more than 35,000 professionals in the Technopark campus.
'When Allianz was posed with the question: Why is there an ever increasing problem with pollution and congestion in Technopark? The organisation found its answer in 'Why not a Cycle?',' said Shri Rakesh Gupta, managing director, ACIS-A company of Allianz.
Allianz itself has over 1,100 IT/ITeS employees and offices spread across four buildings on the IT campus.
Officials of Technopark, CEOs and employees of other companies also participated in the event. |
