India's First JBoss Center of Excellence at Trivandrum
February 11, 2008:
InApp, a leading software services company in the Technopark, Trivandrum, has set up India's first JBoss Center of Excellence (JBoCE), in Technopark, Trivandrum. Mr. S. Satyamoorthy, Principal JBoss Evangelist, Asia-Pacific, and the head of the JBoss Division of Red Hat India, formally inaugurated the Centre at InApp's Technopark premises, Trivandrum on 8th February 2008. JBoCE will provide JBoss expertise to consultants, developers, technicians and trainers, directed primarily at the Asia-Pacific and US markets.
JBoss is the world's most popular application server that has overtaken the offerings of IBM, Oracle and BEA in market share in the last couple of years. Application servers are key middleware that serve as platforms for enterprise computing, especially for large-scale applications such as e-governance, web-based ERP and large public web sites.
As a "Professional Open Source" product, JBoss provides many features that contribute to faster application development, more maintainable code and high scalability in comparison to its proprietary rivals. The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) associated with JBoss enterprise applications is considered substantially lower than that of competing middleware. For Kerala, whose IT policy affirms a clear preference towards Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), JBoss would be a particularly appropriate fit, especially for e-governance applications.
By launching the JBoss Center of Excellence, InApp - a Red Hat partner and a pioneer in the spread of open source technologies in India
- hopes to bring the benefits of JBoss to the e-governance scenario in India and stimulate the development of more enterprise-level applications on Open Source platforms.
JBoCE will recruit and train professionals to create a pool of manpower who can take on the development and maintenance of JBoss applications in India as well the rest of Asia-Pacific. It is expected that the availability of trained JBoss professionals will further increase penetration of this robust, efficient and cost-effective enterprise middleware. Since enterprise-class applications operate at the higher end of the value chain, the Centre also will help in developing local human resources.
